“Walking. Switzerland. After five fractures in the right leg, paralysis in the foot, and possible amputation, all while bleeding, my man and I have come a long way in the 2.5 years since my accident in the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” Judd wrote to her fans.
“We came so far into these Alps, for the sheer joy of it, with confidence. Enduring gratitude of a deep lineage to the Congolese who saved me, and the surgeons, neurologist, and physical therapist who prepared me for this amazing recovery. How are you celebrating your blessings?”
In photos posted to her Instagram circle, Judd showed off bright blue skies, butterflies, walking sticks, waterfalls, and other stunning views from her time outdoors.
Judd previously revealed that she broke her leg in several places in February 2021 after tripping up a tree and underwent an eight-hour operation in a South African hospital. She spent months In intensive physical therapy.
At the time, Judd was visiting the African country to research the endangered monkey species, the bonobo.
“My leg will never be the same. It’s a new leg. And I love it. We’re buddies,” she wrote. “We have come a long way and we have a wonderful life ahead.”
For her 11th anniversary in the fall of 2022, she took a 25-mile hike in the Appalachian Mountains, writing that she had “an open, eager heart.”

I was just thinking about it overnight. I had one of my own overnight waking up, thinking about those first days after her death and how there was always someone with me in my house.”
